Vietnam - Summer 2004

Growing up as a kid, I learned about Vietnam from the daily newspaper. Once synonymous with tragedy and conflict, Vietnam is experiencing a rebirth. Historical sites are being restored, the country's economy is booming, and the infrastructure for tourism is developing rapidly. Ho Chi Minh City is home to more than 5 million people in the south, while Hanoi, sometimes called the "Paris of the Orient", is home to about 4 million in the north. It is a study in contrasts: traditional and modern, young and old, rich and poor.

During the war going to the Hilton meant the local jail -I'd rather be at the Sheraton.

Chao Bella, a one act Opera -Italian music meets Vietnamese romance.

The Opera House at night time in Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City.

Finally I found a bike in Hanoi that I could handle. Behind the wall on the right side of the street is the US Embassy.

When you get tired of bicycling, your buddies with the real bikes will do. Yes, thumbs up from Vihnie and his friend.

...or better yet, just get on the bus if you're worry about scratching your nice legs on those daring motorcycles.

Any of these boats can take you to Ha Long Bay -SE of Hanoi.

Breath taking scenery -reminds me of the mountains in Guilim, China.

Floating market vendors in Ha Long Bay -what a beautiful scenery.
