Tibet - Fall 2001

A nice journey thru the colorful cities of Tibet and the beautiful region of the Himalaya.
Five of the world's 10 highest peaks including Mount Everest at 8,850 meters (29,035 ft) are here.

A beautiful day at the Potola Palace in Lhasa. A
mystical place and former home of the Dalai Lama.

Sunset at Mt. Everest - The North Face, the view from Rongbuk, about two hours hike to Base Camp.

Yamdrok Tso also known as Turquoise Lake from the Khambala Pass on the way to Gyanze. Elevation 5,000 meters

On the streets of Tingri. If you get very hungry, the just freshly skinned goat jerky is not too far away.

At the court yard inside the Drepung Monastery, the largest and richest monastery in Lhasa founded in 1416.

At the first base camp at Mt. Everest -Mt. Qomolangma. 5,200 m., 17,203 ft. As far as I got to the Top of the World.

Sylvia and May at Base Camp. Behind is Mt. Everest. It was so cold, I could barely hold the camera.

8 am, at the chinese customs border between Tibet & Nepal-just a few people waiting to cross the border, where are the customs officials ?!?

9 am, still waiting for customs to open, the official red army still having tea -look behind, more bicyclist coming from somwhere, getting crowded here.

Cool pink bike, just like mine on the streets of Lhasa. This dude should be riding for the spanish team ONCE or better yet Deutsche Telekom.
